What do you enjoy doing? Do others enjoy the same thing? Can you spend a couple of hours a week behind your computer screen? Well, If you are reading this I assume you can. This means that you can throw a website together and make some money. So now you're probably asking; "So, how CAN I make money and how much do I have to give you, to tell me?"
I will share this information with you for free. For two reasons;
1. This website itself is a test to see, if what I've heard about making money from Webpages, is true.
2. If what I heard is true I would rather help my fellow University students and share the wealth. If the government isn't going to subsidize our education more than they could, then we will do it for ourselves. Besides, if I told you to pay me $49.99 for it you would probably tell me to stick it in my Geeky ear! So here we go!

Step 1. Choose a Topic that you Absolutely love!
I like teaching others and spreading my knowledge and ideas, That is why you have this site. I also like helping people. Maintaining a webpage is not very hard but will get boring quick if you do not choose a subject that you like. Also, if you do not update your site people will be less inclined to view your site and then you will make less money. Also when you write about something you love people can tell, they notice that you put that little extra in it, and then they usually want more.
Step 2. Brainstorm
Come up with a list of things you would like to write about or promote. Try to think of as many things as possible, and possible future projects for your site. When you have your ideas done, move on to step 3.
Step 3. Making Your Webpage
Gone are the days when only an "uber-geek" could muster a decent webpage. Now a days anyone can do it with the help of Microsoft Front Page, and other products that are usually part of your computer's package anyway. Most of the stuff is type, click, drag, drop, and you are done.
Step 4. Finding a web host and uploading your site.
There are many hosting services out there that are fairly good and cheap. Some are free but these sites use the same techniques that I will be telling you about to support themselves... And some of them have issues with you using these techniques in their site because you are taking away their profits. There is a list of sites that I would recommend at the bottom of this page as well in the recommended links section. I personally use Hostmonster because they are inexpensive. For as little as $4.95 a month you're offered a free domain name of your choosing, a decent amount of web space (50 GB), band width (999 GB), hostmonster help you advertise your site to other search engines, and they allow any sort of media you wish. They have a great referral program that you should use when you make your own site. See the more information section at the bottom for other good hosts.
Step 5. Affiliate programs.
Affiliate programs are one of the big ways to make money on a website, especially if you are making a site that it would be appropriate to sell items through it or recommend items. All you do is go to the website of the particular company that has the items or service that you recommend and see if they have an affiliate program. Some examples of companies with Affiliate programs are Amazon, Chapters, bodybuilding.com, Monster hosting, etc. Pretty much, you end up working like a sales person and you get a commission for your referral. But please, do me a favour and only recommend items or services that you yourself would recommend a friend. People do talk, and if they have a positive result you will get more people, if they feel ripped off they will tell their friends or your affiliates and they may ban you for it. Also don't lie to get people to buy stuff from an affiliate site, the affiliates hate this and will ban you, most of these companies are respectable and don't want to get a bad name.
Most Affiliate programs will give you anywhere from a 4% - 75% commission for a product. If you want to make your customers use your site give them a discount. Do it as a satisfied customer rebate. Most Affiliate products have like a 30-90 day money back guarantee. If it is returned before then you do not get your money. So, when the customer passes that time slot, you can send them their rebate from the earnings you got. I'd recommend Pay Pal or something like that but a check works just as well. But PLEASE do remember to send the cheque, Most websites will not unless the customer asks, because they hope that they will forget... and sadly they usually do. This will make them want to come back to your site and also if you DO give them their rebate they will be more likely to tell their friends about you.

Step 6. The Big One... Google AdSense
Companies spend billions of dollars on advertisement each year. A good portion of that goes into internet sites because many consumers wish to research their goods prior to purchase. Google has created an ingenious way to advertise for companies. However due to contract reasons I can not say exactly what this part is... However you can go to their site and Read all about it. All that needs to be said is that AdSense will help you make revenue with your website.
Step 7. Get your name out there
If no on knows about your site, your knowledge will not get out there and your efforts will be wasted.

Some of these will be redundant but it may help you push your page ranking higher.
You can also use Google AdWords here to get your name out there. They have a pay per click deal that they will make your site near the top of the list for what ever keywords you chose. You will pay per-click onto your site from their engine but hope fully you can make more than you give out.
Another one is place your website in your signature in your e-mails, blogs, forum postings, etc.
You can also put a "tell a friend area" on your site.
Step 8. Maintain your site and wait.
Very important. Otherwise people will not visit. P.S. waiting is the hardest part.
